Shining a Light on Menstrual Health

Menstrual hygiene is more than just a "women's issue"; it is a matter of public health and human rights because it affects health, dignity, education, equality, and social participation. Addressing this issue requires a comprehensive approach that provides access to safe, affordable menstrual products, education, sanitation, and a supportive environment where menstruation is not stigmatized. Ensuring access to menstrual hygiene is essential to advancing public health, gender equality, and human rights for all.

The Youth End Period Poverty Movement invites you to an important online discussion on the topic "Menstrual Health: A Neglected Public Health and Human Rights Concern". This conversation is crucial as we continue to raise awareness and advocate for comprehensive solutions to address the challenges surrounding menstrual health.

Engaging the Church to Combat Period Poverty & Menstrual Shame

Menstrual health stigma in Africa is often rooted in religious practices, with faith leaders playing a crucial role in breaking it. The church can be a trans-formative force in promoting menstrual health and addressing period poverty by providing emotional support, advocating for inclusive policies, and participating in purchasing and supplying menstrual products.

The Youth End Period Poverty Movement collaborates with the church to combat period poverty and menstrual shame through initiatives like the Restore Her Dignity Initiative. Through the initiative, we have provided dignity kits, particularly to low-income communities, and conducted educational trainings in churches that address sexual and reproductive health rights, menstrual health, and the significance of eradicating the stigma attached to menstruation.

Malala Pad Drive Campaign

The Malala Pad Drive Campaign in Zimbabwe, led by Nqobizitha Mfandaidza, with support from the Youth End Period Poverty Movement through the Restore Her Dignity Initiative provided 30 school girls with sanitary pads and education on menstruation and reproductive health. The Youth End Period Poverty Movement supports youth-led initiatives, empowering youth with the tools they need to advocate for themselves and their communities. This not only addresses immediate health and educational needs but also contributes to long-term social change and equity. Together we can build a society where menstruation is normalized and everyone has access to the tools they require to manage their periods with respect and dignity
